Authored Courses

These are excerpts of curriculum I have developed. With an M.A. in English/Creative Writing and a B.A. in Communications/Film I can combine my love of books, film and history to make the lessons adaptable, engaging and thought provoking. Teaching the First Amendment through Film and Television:

A 13-week course exploring each of the freedoms using films and television episodes. The course focuses on historical events and builds expository writing skills. The attached document is the course syllabus. Adaptable for 11th grade to college.

Faith on Film:

A full semester course which uses films from the 1940s to the present, reflecting on viewpoints of the times (both on the decades the films were made and period shown) and seeking messages for today from a variety of faiths. The course focuses on the universal value of belief systems. Adaptable for 11th grade to college.

Remedial Writing Skills Workshop:

A 6-module skills leveler with exercises on common writing assignments and an introduction to basic research paper skills. As a bonus, the students are introduced to the Edward Bulwer-Lytton Competition. Adaptable for middle school, secondary school and early college learners.
